"...And so shall we begin." The voice of Mr. Soft echoed from the lecture hall's faraway walls. The auditorium was scarcely populated, students sat far and wide, as it is customary during a pandemic, which meant that the professor's question were answered by more scalps than usual. Sleeping in classes were not unheard of, but when you take away the possibility of misbehaving, one cannot make matrix arithmetic interesting enough for the masses to keep them awake...

Várunk. Hatalmas a sor, már nem is számoljuk a perceket. Előttem egy negyvenes éveiben járó, mégis fiatalos nő áll, mögöttem senki. Én voltam a szerencsés utolsó, aki a csúcsidőben érkezett. Nem is tudom, vajon órák, napok, vagy hetek teltek-e el, mégsem éreztük szükségét a siettségnek. Itt minden szép tiszta, világos, kellemesen meleg és párás a levegő, s a sort már kiálló, de még tovább nem haladható emberek meglepően jó társaságnak bizonyultak...
Gyakran megesik, hogy a létezés értelmén és lényegén gondolkozok. Látszólag -- legalábbis az enyém -- értelmetlen. Kézről kézre adnak mindenféle bizsuért, minek nem fogják hasznát látni életük során. Nem csak én vagyok ezen a sorson; sokunkkal bánnak így. Születésünkkor kaptunk egy számot, látatlanban határozták meg jövőbeni értékünket, mikor még ismeretlenek értékeink és jellemvonásaink. Miután ez megtörtént, kedvükre formálták kinézetünk, matériaként tekintettek reánk...
